Established in 1998 and headquartered in Iqaluit, Nunavut Eastern Arctic Shipping Inc’s mission is to reliably deliver superior marine transportation, marshalling, packaging and container services for customers across the Baffin, Kivalliq and Kitikmeot regions of Nunavut.
Nunavut Eastern Arctic Shipping Inc. is an NTI registered “Inuit Firm”. As a Nunavut Inuit majority owned enterprise, 51% of the voting shares in Nunavut Eastern Arctic Shipping are held by local Nunavut Inuit companies including Merkosak Construction Ltd. and Isaac (Ike) Haulli.
The remaining 49% of the shares in Nunavut Eastern Arctic Shipping Inc are held by NEAS Inc., owned jointly by Makivik Corporation, the Inuit Birthright Corporation from Nunavik, and Transport Nanuk Inc., a joint venture between Logistec Corporation and The North West Company.
Nunavut Eastern Arctic Shipping contributes to sustainable local economic development for the people and communities of the Nunavut by delivering reliable transportation services; creating meaningful training, employment and promotion opportunities for local Inuit; and generating new economic opportunities and integrating local Nunavut Inuit businesses into the essential transportation industries, including in the final link of the distribution chain, local cartage.

The objective is to deliver superior sealift for the 14 communities across Nunavik and to capitalize on emerging opportunities from the Government of Quebec’s Plan Nord. Nunavik Eastern Arctic Shipping is committed to significantly increasing NEAS business across Nunavik and Northern Quebec.
