Makivik’s role includes the administering and investment of these funds, and promoting economic growth through the assistance of the creation of businesses run by Inuit in Nunavik. Makivik promotes the preservation of Inuit culture and language as well as the health, welfare, relief of poverty, and education of Inuit in the communities.

Sakku Investments Corporation is the investment arm of the Kivalliq Inuit Association (KivIA). Sakku has been acting as a development corporation since 1989.
